The foundation to any succesful sport horse is the environment and the manner in which they are raised. Avenir Farm extends to all of our clients ideal conditions for raising their youngsters to ensure physical and mental well-being at a very affordable rate.
Virtually year round, all youngsters enjoy life in a herd on gentle rolling hills of lush Kentucky Bluegrass in the heart of horse country, Lexington's famed Fayette County. These youngsters live on expansive pastures to grow and develop their bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles. As all studies have indicated, young horse development issues are kept to a minimum if they are out and moving as nature intended, so all of our young horses see the inside of stalls only when necessary and/or enough to be comfortable in them. Conscientiously checked, young horses are handled daily and are taught the fundamentals of life so they can make an easy transition into the demands of adulthood.
The other critical aspect to proper young horse development is nutrition. All of our horses have individualized feeding programs based largely on the high quality forage provided by our pastures and are supplemented with grain/ration balancers developed and proven for the young Warmblood. This feeding program is pivotal in preventing OCD in foals and other common ailments such as ephiphisitis, contracted tendons, splints, and degenerative changes associated with improper nutrition.
Proactive health management is paramount so our pricing includes vaccinatins, worming and farrier. Our farrier is a third generation Master Farrier. He assesses foal hoof and leg development on a 4-week cycle (or more frequently, if necessary) and all yearlings on a 6-week cycle. Our Rood & Riddle veterinarian and reproductive specialist combines world-class expertise and practicality. The clinic is just a 15-minute haul in case of emergencies.
And when your young horse is ready to show, be started or be bred, we'll be happy to remain your partner in their development. We have strong relationships with quality in-hand trainers and handlers, starting trainers and even those trainers that you'll need after your horse is started - somebody to put on the skill set and mileage that every show horse requires without breaking the bank. And our stalls, paddocks and pastures will always be open to our clients for the life of their horse ...
Do you want to start your horse and then put them back out to mature before starting their show career? Let us know and we'll keep their pasture slot reserved for their return "home."
Do you want to follow the European model and breed your mare before she starts showing or do an ET with her during her down time from showing? With a strong, collaborative relationship with our Rood & Riddle veterinarian, we offer all our clients the same level of due diligence and dedication we put into breeding our mares. We'll be happy to help whether its figuring out the registry maze, making stallion recommendations and/or helping you attain the sought after "black dot."
Coming back to Lexington to show at the Horse Park? We're just 10 minutes away from this world class facility so stable your horse in our low key environment with safe, grass turn out and ship in for your classes.
Want to retire your show mare to the broodmare pasture and breed your next show partner? The girls, both young and old, thrive on Kentucky pastures. Retire her in the horse equivalent of heaven!
