(Torino-Columbus-Condino)
2/05 Steel Gray (born true black) 16.2 BWP Stallion
Lifetime Approved BWP Breeding Stallion
A true reflection of his sire! Fidelio began his formal under saddle training with the European Grand Prix rider, John Brown, of Braveheart Farms. He was brought along slowly, but with his natural athleticism and trainability, Fiddy was jumping small courses with confirmed lead changes within just a few months. He's showing excellent scope and technique, boldness, three balanced and naturally cadenced gaits under saddle, including his sire's exceptional canter and huge stride, and a strong willingness to work and learn. According to his trainer, his character is kind, tractable, willing...a gentleman. His mind is unflappable with a confidence and self-assurance that surpasses his years. He debuted with John in the show ring in Feburuary '09 and was prepared for the '09 stallion approvals.
Fidelio is the embodiement of power. Built to stay sound, his conformation is very correct, with significant bone, large joints, powerful hindquarters, strong, supple back and a beautiful head and neck. As they say though, the proof is in the pudding... Fidelio was the Champion Colt of the BWP North American Tour in 2005 and the Reserve Champion Yearling of the BWP Tour in 2006. With two half-brothers (same dam) already approved stallions and both proven prepotent improvement sires, Fidelio should be considered a serious jumping sire.
His pedigree is a "who's who" of the showjumping world and of today's most sought after Holsteiner and Dutch bloodlines, even in Europe - Heartbreaker, Cassini I, Nimmerdor, Cor de la Bryere, Calypso II. He combines three proven nicks which have been proven time and again at the highest levels of the show jumping world ... Corde-Capitol, Capitol-Nimmerdor and perhaps most importantly, the Capitol-Caletto II nick. This nick has produced many of today's showjumping phenoms including Dobel's Cento, Cumano, Eurocommerce Berlin and Indoctro among others. This special colt jumps with the extreme power and exquisite technique trademark of his lineage.
Fidelio's sire, Torino was purchased by US medal-winning Olympian Anne Kursinksi. With his unlimited power and scope, technique and work ethic, the pair have their eyes on the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Torino is by the Dutch Keur and Preferent stallion, Heartbreaker (like to video below). Heartbreaker is making his mark as not only a producer of exceptional competition horses, but also as a sire of sires with more than 20 approved sons. Torino's dam, a Cassini I (link to video below) mare, is also a top competitor currently competing at 1.4m in Europe. Like his sire, Torino is proving himself as both a top producer and a high-level competition horse. He sired the top foal in the BWP-NA registry four years in a row, including Fidelio in '05 and his full-sister in '06. Torino stamps his progeny with his powerful hind end, bold yet careful jumping prowess and a superb temperament.
Fidelio's dam, Jete (Columbus-Condino), is the mother of 3 approved stallions, grand dam to another approved stallion, dam of the '05 and '06 US champion BWP foals, and mother to 100% premium offspring. A testament to her breeding, Jete and her offspring are extremely prepotent producers in terms of type, temperament and jumping prowess. Jete is line bred to none other than Cor de la Bryere, the stallion famous for revolutionizing the Holsteiner breed as we know it today. He was said to exhibit the best jumping bascule and technique ever seen in the equine world. Dr. Rossow says of this great stallion:
"Corde" is a stallion with great presence, good medium frame and energetic masculine expression. Good face with fabulous, quiet eye, rather small ears... good shoulder... Good front legs...Good basic gaits. Marvelous riding horse qualities. Spectacular jumper with scope, tight with front end, bascule and sharp with knees. Produce: Corde is a top sire. Offspring usually mirror his type with good frame and size. Good basic gaits...Get have been very successful in all disciplines to extent that for years he has been listed among the top German sires, based on the winnings of his offspring. His heritage of rideability, handiness, form and bascule over fences aided in bringing the Holsteiner breed to even greater international importance. Sired many good stallions and mares for the breed. Unfortunately, because of their rideability, many good daughters went into competition and were not bred." By the famous Thoroughbred Rantzau who goes back to Dark Ronald. On his dam's side appears the great French jumper sire Furioso. An inimitable force in Holsteiner breeding.
With Cor de la Bryere positioned in the third generation of both the top and bottom of Jete's pedigree, it is no wonder that the offspring of Jete are bold, enthusiasitic jumpers who jump consistenly in a style befitting this proven lineage. We expect Fidelio to follow in these footsteps, both as a competitor and as a breeding stallion.
Congratulations to Smith Green Sporthorses on the purchase of Fidelio.
